The biggest project we undertook in 2009 was filling in the pond at the corner of #11 fairway and the front half of the pond alongside #10 green. This took several months though we were finally able to seed and mulch these areas in August. We will continue to fertilize these areas heavily and rock them as necessary. We brought in a stump grinder and cleared one hundred and twenty stumps, mostly on the front nine holes. We continue to work drainage yearly, and 2009 was no different. We dug a trench from #13 green all the way down the right side of the the fairway to #14 green. This alleviated the major drainage problems we had across #14, #15, and #16 fairways. We patched #14 fairway at the 170 yard mark, approximately 150 yards out in front of #10 green and between #15 and #16 fairways. We still have to hit some low areas on #16 and #8 fairways. This fall we took down some trees that were dying out. We took down the pine tree at the 180 yard mark on the right side of #9 fairway. We also took out two 40 foot trees behind #18 green, a 70 foot Ash tree west of #14 tee, and a 70 foot Ash tree to the right side of #8 fairway. We cut back the brush on #5 tee, #6 tee, and #18 tee. We continued to work green extensions on the back of #4 green and the front of #13 green. We started the foundation for a bathroom on the east side of #16 tee. We also started the foundatoin to rebuild #13, #14, and #15 red tees. We put in a turn around up by #6 men's tee. We added six new ball washers on the back nine. We cleared two large four foot stumps out in front of #18 tee and cleared up the right side of #18 fairway. We reworked the cart paths on #1, #5, #11, and #12. We made some changes in the club house. We moved the pro shop to the front bar area and established a key sign-out log to better control cart use. We got our feet wet in the food service area. Gibby and Jack Thompson completed another outstanding year in providing food for our tournaments. We will continue to make improvements for 2010. I have ordered fertilizer and herbicide for the fairways, especially the back nine holes. We plan on planting numerous trees on the back side for fairway seperation. We are going to construct a walking bridge across the creek on #11 fairway. We also want to finish the bathroom by #16 tee, and finish the new red tees on #13, #14, and #15. We will finish cutting down the green extensions on #4 and #13 and put those areas into service. Our biggest project for this year will be to shore up the bank in front of # 6 green. We will drain the pond in front of the green, pull out the 5000 golf balls, bring in an excavator, and reconstruct that area. The actual construction should only take a day or two. We will then groom, seed and mulch the area. This will take the rest of the season to grow in. We are always open to suggestions to improve the course and make it a pleasurable golfing experience for everyone.
